The Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum celebrated its first expression outside the Jaipur City Palace at India Art Fair 2025, New Delhi. This exhibition pays homage to the 75th Anniversary of the Constitution of Independent India. A very special display by one of the most prominent Royal families of India, the exhibition showcased the everyday people of the court in photographs (shot by Maharaja Ram Singh himself) and paintings (commissioned 50 years earlier during the reigns of Madho Singh I and Prithvi Singh II). These objects were complemented by works by contemporary artist, Suchender P. The exhibition offered a different perspective on the evolving roles of rulers and ordinary people in shaping our identity, drawing on works of art from the museum's collection.
The scenographic display by December Design Studio blends these historic and contemporary works, highlighting the role of ordinary people in an interplay of art, society, and governance.

A series of ephemeral fabric screens printed with blow-ups of the portraits surround the throne to create a alluring focal point to the exhibition space. The choice of semi-transparent print media was a deliberate decision aimed at highlighting how the throne is as strong as the people behind it. This symbiotic relationship is demonstrated by the striking poses in each photograph and visually enveloping the throne with these people speaks to empowerment of the people of this court.

The photography studio as would have been used by Maharaja Ram Singh with hand-painted backdrops was a intriguing starting point for this engagement space. We recreated the studio complete with chair and flower vase to give visitors a glimpse of the royal court and the studio of one of India's pioneering photographers.
